This morning, I awoke without any awareness of a tragic 7.2 magnitude earthquake in Bohol province, part of the Visayas Island, Philippines until I watched the noontime variety show on TV and one of the hosts, Anne Curtis, asked everyone to offer a minute of silence to pray for our affected fellowmen down there.
I was totally stunned and immediately searched the internet to find out about the latest news regarding this unfortunate event.
According to Phivolcs, the following quake intensities were felt:
- Intensity VII (Destructive) – Tagbilaran, Bohol
- Intensity VI (Very Strong) – Hinigaran, Negros Occidental
- Intensity V (Strong) – Iloilo City; La Carlota, Negros Occidental
- Intensity IV (Moderately Strong) – Masbate City; Roxas City; San Jose, Culasi, Antique; Guihulngan, Negros Oriental
- Intensity III (Weak) – Davao City
Seeing Tagbilaran, Bohol on top made my heart sunk! Our family have a lot of relatives there and in the nearby Mabini. Up to this point, I haven’t received any responses from my cousin who lives there with her family, my aunt and uncle. I’m praying that they are fine despite what happened earlier today.
But above all, I’m saddened by how much this earthquake has caused. A lot of churches in Bohol and Cebu, such as the Loboc, Loay, Baclayon and Sto. Niño Churches, collapsed. So as many establishments, city hall, offices, universities and major hospitals.
At this point, all I can do is to pray for everyone’s safety, not only for my relatives. This is not the first time our country experienced a destructive earthquake and I believe that in every obstacle, still lies hope for us to recover and rebuild what has been damaged. Hopefully, our government would be able to reach and help those families who were affected especially in Bohol, Cebu, Negros Oriental and Occidental.
Can we get a prayer from you as well? That would definitely mean a lot. Thank you and God bless.
